What We Do

creating a "hope zone"

The goal of the Humboldt Connection Suicide Prevention group is to create a “hope zone” for residents contemplating suicide, and for those who have survived or are bereaved by suicide.

To do this, the HCSP's goal is to:

  1. Help residents in Humboldt County become aware of local, regional, statewide and national suicide prevention and after-care resources.
  2. Help residents in Humboldt County accept responsibility to share information about suicide prevention and after-care resources.
  3. Help residents in Humboldt County act on sharing suicide prevention and after-care resources with those in need.

Our main objectives are:

  • To decrease the number of suicides in Humboldt County by 20% in the one-year period following implementation of suicide prevention outreach efforts, when compared to the average number of suicides over the previous 10 years.
  • To increase community engagement in and dissemination of suicide prevention and after-care information, as evidenced by a 35% increase in web/social traffic from 6 months following implementation of suicide prevention outreach efforts to one year following outreach efforts.
